Timbre, Expression and Tone Colour – Worksheets for Grade 1 Music – Interactive Notebook
This is a packet of activities created to follow the Ontario curriculum for Grade 1 music. All the “fundamental concept” (the elements of music) for timbre (body percussion, sound quality of instruments, environmental and found sounds) as well as expression (loud, soft; smooth and detached articulation) curriculum expectations are represented. When I use these activities in my classroom, I use it as one of the stations in my music centers (so that their notebook can be taken with them to the centers and used as a reference, as well as holding their work from the other centers) but it could just as easily be used as a whole-class activity.
All text in the activities is written with a traceable font so that students will be able to complete the work correctly even with limited reading/writing ability.
Instructions are included for each activity, but as written directions can be difficult for this age group, they are really meant more as a guide for the teacher than for the students to follow. I recommend having a sample notebook with each activity that the students can look at for reference.
