Black History Month Music: Oscar Peterson – Canada’s most famous jazz musician!

There are many famous black musicians worth studying, but especially if you’re from Canada, there is no better musician to study for Black History Month than Oscar Peterson. Use this poster & activity pack for a fun bulletin board display as well as lessons during Black History Month.

Oscar Peterson was a prolific jazz pianist who was referred to by Louis Armstrong as “the man with four hands”. Even when arthritis and a stroke limited his ability to play with his left hand, he was still dubbed to be “better than just about anyone with two hands” by Bob Rae.

The PDFs included in this package are designed to be used for a bulletin board display. All of the files are standard letter size, some portrait and some landscape. They will print best if you print “without borders” if your printer has this function. They are meant to be printed in colour, but will look fine in black and white if you don’t have a colour printer or are going to be photocopying as handouts. Lower resolution jpgs of each poster are also included for your convenience, in case you can’t use PDF (they still look good when printed).
