The key to promoting TpT products on social media

Promote your TpT Store on Social Media

The #1 Mistake TpT Sellers Make on Social Media

Do you use Instagram to promote your TpT products?

Go to your profile page right now, and look at the last 6 posts of your grid. How many of them are product covers?

If it’s more than 1, I’m going to guess that you don’t get many engagements on your posts.

It’s because you’re an interrupter.

Lots of TpT Sellers using social media and search platforms to increase awareness about their products – which is totally fine. But HOW you do it is the tricky part. HOW you do it is what determines how well those efforts pay off.

People use different platforms for different things

Imagine you’re a teacher, and you need to buy a unit plan for science. Where are you most likely to go? I’m willing to bet a Grande Caramel Macchiato that you said you’d go straight to TpT.

If you’re looking for ideas for activities to improve students’ penmanship, you’ll likely go to Pinterest.

When you’ve just got home from school and you’re collapsing on the couch with a glass of wine responsible cup of tea, you’re grabbing your phone to scroll through Instagram.

If you’re looking for how to clean the filter on your smartboard projector, you’re probably searching YouTube.

To grow your audience on each social media platform, you need to offer what people are looking for.

Product covers work on TpT because teachers are shopping for products.

On Pinterest, teachers are searching visually for ideas AND products. So images that show an idea that they will want to SAVE will get their attention.

Don’t interrupt.

On Instagram & Facebook, teachers are not shopping. Posts that are trying to sell something are interrupt marketing – they’re asking users to STOP what they’re doing and pay attention to you instead. That’s a hard thing to do. So posts that look like ads (ie product covers) are much more likely to be skimmed past.

Instead of fighting against this, try to use it to your advantage. Instead of interrupting what your customers are doing, use your expertise to JOIN IN with what they’re already doing. Your sales stats will thank you. 😍
