Christmas Carols Lesson Plan: Music Theory Mystery for Grades 4, 5, 6

This fun and low-prep Christmas carols lesson plan package is perfect for your older elementary music class. No lesson plan required – just print the worksheets and go, and watch your students review basic music theory from Christmas carols while solving an engaging mystery!

First, students will read the original “film noir” style story that introduces the mystery. Then, they will use their knowledge of music theory to complete puzzle worksheets that will reveal the clues. Finally, they will use those clues to solve the mystery. (Think of it like a worksheet version of an individual escape room activity.)

The music theory used is based on grades 3 and 4 so this package can be used as a review activity or sub tub plan up to grade 6. All pages are completed using black-line images so that early finishers can also color the characters.
